DELNET, initially supported by the National Information System for Science and Technology (NISSAT), Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India, has also received support from the National Informatics Centre, Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India, and the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
DELNET was established with the primary objective of promoting resource sharing among libraries by developing a network of libraries. It aims to collect, store, and disseminate information, offer computerized services to users, coordinate efforts for suitable collection development, and reduce unnecessary duplication wherever possible.
DELNET has launched a new discovery portal for member libraries. Through this portal, users can access a vast collection of resources, including research articles, e-books, e-journals, theses, books, and millions of bibliographic records. DELNET also facilitates the delivery of individual books and photocopies of articles published in India and abroad through its Inter-Library Loan/Document Delivery Services.
